|Snapdragon X Processor
We are at CES and Qualcomm has just announced a new chip being added to their Snapdragon line of processors for laptops.
Yup, just X. The newest chip Qualcomm has announced will not have "Plus" or "Elite" at the end like the previous chips, but just be called the X. Model number will be 26-100, following their previous naming scheme of lower numbers representing lower power and performance. From the information we have so far, which doesn't include benchmarks, they are claiming a significant improvement in every performance metric over the Intel Core 5 120U. This isn't saying much, as that is a very low performing chip. It is mostly intended for light use like browsing the web and office applications. This is likely because the Snapdragon X is intending to plant itself firmly in the budget category, claiming to be in devices costing as little as $600. We have concerns about this strategy as those same users could buy a new laptop from last year's range and get much better performance out of it.
